Obituary: | Mary Ann Denwoody Lawroski died June 20. She was 88. The following was provided by her family. Mary Ann was the daughter of Brad and Ruth Denwoody in Prescott, Arkansas. Her father was a sportsman, and she often joined him on fishing trips. Later, her husband, Harry, spent a lot of time deer hunting with her dad. She lived on Jackson’s west bank with her husband. Mary Ann grew up in Prescott and then attended the University of Arkansas as an undergraduate. Later she obtained a master’s degree at Penn State University, where she studied family finance as part of home economics. Her husband also attended Penn State and became a consultant and member of the faculty. Harry is fond of saying that they met at a bar at a party organized by one of his friends who invited twice as many women as men. He spotted Mary Ann across the room, and the rest is history. They dated and married. When they settled in Idaho Falls, Harry was forced to commute to the University of Idaho, where Mary Ann was working. Eventually she became the extension agent for the University of Idaho Falls, where she specialized in family finance. Upon retirement the Lawroskis moved to Jackson in the 1990s, finding found a spacious home on the west bank. They were very fond of travel and spent time particularly in Asia. Many of their friends admired their collection of Asian art, artifacts and furniture only to find out that it was all primarily collected from a dealer in Blackfoot, Idaho. Mary Ann was active in a number of local organizations. She belonged to the St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary and the Senior Center. Harry was president of the Pioneer Homestead apartments and was responsible for building part of the complex. Mary Ann also participated as treasurer for awhile. She was a founding member of the Sage Book Club where she was always prepared with, informative comments about the current book selection. The National Museum of Wildlife Art was a special place for Mary Ann. She was a dedicated volunteer for many years. She could be counted on to help at special events, museum celebrations and social events. The staff of the museum have expressed how much they admire her and will very much miss her participation. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Harry; sister Sarah (Dan) Barhm; and nephew David and his family. A celebration of life is planned. |
