Obituary: Shirley Ann Thornton, 86, of Rosston, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday July 25, 2024 after a short illness. She was born at Spring Hill, Arkansas on February 10, 1938 to Jesse James Sinclair and Margaret Louise (Ross) Sinclair. Shirley Thornton was the sweetest wife, Mama, Mamaw, Grandma, Aunt Shirley, Sister Shirley, and friend anyone could ever hope to have. She had the most genuine smile and loved God, her family, friends, and church family with all she had. She set the bar high as a caregiver to her mother and sister for over a decade after being a pastor’s wife that cared for the widowed ladies in her community for many years. She was a Godly woman that many remember as their Sunday School teacher or her playing the piano at church or making her special homemade rolls for church dinners. She was a licensed cosmetologist and enjoyed her clients and her career for many years in Texas, New Mexico, and Arkansas. She loved fast cars and traveling with her husband, Charles, by car or 18 wheeler, to every corner of the country. Shirley is survived by one son, Rodney Thornton and wife Lisa of Bodcaw, Arkansas; one daughter, Lynn Smith and husband Mark, of Rosston, Arkansas; one brother in law, Howard Thornton and wife Judy of Van Alstyne, Texas; one sister in law, Ginny Thornton Dickerson and husband Harrel, of Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jalyn Barba, Alison Gravley, Daniel Smith, John Paul Smith, Orin Hampton, Hannah Ham, and Chance Thornton; 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Thornton; her parents, Jesse James Sinclair and Margaret Louise Sinclair, and one sister, Wanda Jean (Sinclair) McCorkle. Visitation will take place on Saturday July 27, 2024 from 1-2pm with funeral service to follow at 2pm at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope, Arkansas. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nevada County, Arkansas, immediately following. Bro. Billy Criss Langston and Bro. Kenneth Bobo will officiate the services. Pallbearers are Daniel Smith, John Paul Smith, Chance Thornton, Orin Hampton, Joel Barba, and Alex Smith. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brazzel Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope.
