Obituary: Catherine Jean Cottingham, 81, of Benton, passed away on February 4, 2023. She was born on December 4, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, to the late Phillip John and Virginia "Jeannie" Latorre DelVecchio. Catherine was well-loved by her family. She was the mother of three, grandmother to six, and great grandmother to five. She had many sisters and brothers-in-law through Jerry and she treasured them all. Despite working full-time, she made time for everyone and loved to cook for her family. In addition to being in the Pep Club, Catherine was the Homecoming Queen at Hope High School. She married the love of her life, Jerry Cottingham on August 27, 1960. After moving with Baptist Medical Center as a transcriptionist, followed by Arkansas Pathology Associates, where she retired. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Jerry David Cottingham. Catherine is survived by her sons, James (Tammy) Cottingham, and Michael (Tammy) Cottingham; daughter, Sheri (Waymon) Burnett; brother, Phillip (Judy) DelVecchio; and sister, Sharon DelVecchio. Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 9th, with Terry Fortner officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Prescott, Ark., at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be at Ashby Funeral Home on Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. Our family wishes to thank Melba Oates, who has been mom's best friend for more than 40 years. In addition, we would like to thank Ernestina Rogers, who has cared for mom for the past five years. Rosie, her Cheeto-loving loyal companion who has never left mom's side, misses her a lot. Last but not least, we are grateful to the doctors and staff at Saline Memorial Hospital, especially the ICU crew, who cared for her and for us.
