Obituary: Everett Arlie Jones went to his eternal home on September 2, 2023, at the age of 77, just 19 days shy of his 78th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie Jones and Murl Hendrix Jones, and his sister, Virginia Jones Ghormley. Everett is survived by his wife, Lee Gilmore Jones of Prescott, AR. His daughter, Traci Rucker (Todd) of Prescott, AR and son, Ben Jones (Shauntelle) of Prescott, AR. His sisters, Patsy Glass, of Prescott, AR and Sue Roe of Crosby, TX. His grandchildren, Trevor Rucker (Carlee) of Alexander, AR, Reed Rucker of Sparkman, AR, Tyler Rucker of Prescott, AR, Trey Rucker of Prescott, AR, Baylee Jones of El Dorado, AR, Blane Jones of El Dorado AR, and one great grandchild, Beckham Rucker, of Alexander, AR. Everett graduated from Prescott High School and eventually graduated from Henderson State University. Everett married the love of his life in August of 1971. During his high school years, he worked for Nevada County Picayune. After college, Everett worked as a Curley Wolf teacher and coach in the early 70’s and then went to work for Koen Farms. He then decided that he didn’t make enough money and went into the car business. He worked for Ford Motor Company until he decided to open his own business in Prescott, EJ’s Auto Center. He sold cars for almost 25 years until his Parkinson got the best of him and he retired in 2014. You won’t find too many people in this town that did not buy a car from EJ and there are still many cars in town with EJ’s Auto sticker on them. Everett was known to others by EJ, Uncle E, Daddy, and Papaw. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and being a part of the Glass Deer Camp where he looked forward to opening day and that steak dinner every year. He was a member of Prescott Country Club where he loved to play the game of golf. You would not find someone that loved sports as much as he did. He was an avid Curley Wolf supporter. There were not many sporting events that involved the Curley Wolves that you didn’t see him there. He loved his family and he loved following his children, grandchildren, and nephews throughout their career. He was a proud husband, dad, brother, papaw, and uncle. You couldn’t go into the coffee shop without hearing him bragging about his family. He was loved so much and will be missed tremendously. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home to help cover the funeral expenses. Visitation will held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at First Baptist Church Prescott. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Jerry Westmorland and Bro. Frank Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Deann Cemetery under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home.
