Obituary: | Rolfe Alton Wylie Jr. of Wake Village, TX, age 85, passed away on March 5, 2020. Rolfe was born October 8, 1934, in Prescott, AR to Rolfe and Florence Wylie. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Moores Lane. Other than his family, he had two great passions to which he devoted his life- the deaf ministries at FBC and education. After high school, Rolfe served his country as an Executive Officer in the Army Reserves for 10 years, including a period of active duty. Rolfe, the sixth child of deaf parents, faithfully served 53 years at FBC as the Director of Deaf Ministries. At FBC, he produced a monthly newsletter for the deaf community entitled The Silent News, taught Sunday School, and interpreted countless church services prior to his retirement in 2013. After earning his PhD. in audio visual education from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX, Rolfe worked at Texarkana College for over 35 years as the Chairman of the Humanities Division and a professor. At TC, he taught American Sign Language, English, and speech to thousands of students. Rolfe was preceded in death by his parents Rolfe and Florence Wylie, his three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-laws, Shali (Greg) Martindale and Lori (Daniel) Jones both of Texarkana, TX; five grandchildren - Brandon and his wife Sandy, Sara Kate, and Layne Martindale and Kaylee and Allison Jones; and one great-grandchild Addison Martindale and numerous nieces and nephews. Although Rolfe/Dad/Grandpa will be greatly missed by his family and friends, he leaves behind a beautiful legacy of humor, love, and compassion for others. There will be a visitation Sunday 3:00-5:00 pm at the Texarkana Funeral Home on Texas Boulevard. A celebration of life service will be held at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas, on Monday, March 8, 2020, at 1:30 P.M. Burial will be in DeAnn Cemetery, Prescott, Arkansas. |
