Obituary: James Edward Cottingham, 86, was born January 30, 1935 in his home in Terrapin Neck, Arkansas. He attended public schools in Bluff City and Prescott and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a degree in Agriculture. James was a Master Sergeant in the Arkansas National Guard. He was also an excellent marksman and captain of the Arkansas National Guard Pistol Team. He carried his good aim into the deer woods where he was a long-time member of the Bush-Holler and DeWoody Greer deer camps. James was also an avid fisherman and loved spending time dropping a line with his cousin and dear friend Bob Loe. James loved to play golf with his buddies with the Southwest Arkansas Senior Golf Association and at Red Martin Country Club. One of his all-time favorite golfing memories is getting to play at The Old Course at Saint Andrews with his son Scott, as well as his hole-in-one in 1984. James had a long career in the oil and gas industry working as a senior field agent as well as serving as Vice President of Omni Field Services. Of all the places he traveled with his career, he most loved spending time on the farm he grew up on. James was a generous neighbor and wonderful friend who never met a stranger. He was a long-time member and Sunday School teacher at Liberty Church of the Nazarene as well as a trained volunteer for the Redland Fire Department. Of all of James' accomplishments, he was most proud of his two sons, Scott and Michael, as well as his grandson James Orion and great-grandson Aiden. James was proceeded in death by mother, Grace Bolls Cottingham and father, William Edward Cottingham. He is survived by his two sons as well as his grandson and great-grandson. Other survivors are his sister Sallie Cottingham Graves as well as countless family and friends. Visitation will be held at 1:00 Saturday, October 23, with the service beginning at 2:00 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. The graveside service will be immediately following at Liberty Cemetery.
