Obituary: LaJoy Stokes Cox, age 88 of Prescott, passed away on August 4, 2024, at Springs of Hillcrest Nursing Rehab in Prescott, Arkansas. Born March 23, 1936, in Bluff Springs, Arkansas to Fred and Allie Stokes, Joy graduated from Laneburg High School in 1955. She worked for several years at Ford Motor Company in Prescott before marrying George N. Cox Jr. in 1962. Always active on the cattle farm and the construction business they shared together, Joy also enjoyed being a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where she served as church clerk for many years. She was a very active resident of the Redland community where she and George lived, and she enjoyed being a member of the Redland Community Extension Homemakers Club and was a devoted caretaker of Liberty Cemetery. One thing Joy was most known for was her amazing cooking, she loved nothing more than to share delicious culinary skills with those she cared about. Joy and George N. were known for the large vegetable garden they raised each year and for their generosity in sharing the bounty from that garden with their family and friends. In her later years, Joy devoted much of her time to quilting, crocheting, and other handwork and shared many of her beautiful creations with those she cared about. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years George N. Cox. Jr, her brother James Stokes, her three sisters, Louise Willis, Mary Jean Avery, and Margaret McBrayer, and her son in law Gary Golden, and she lived the last years of her life missing them and looking forward to the joyous reunion they’re now having together. Left to cherish her memories are her stepdaughter Gaywyn Golden, her daughter and son in law Lisa and Dale (Danny) Pennington, her grandchildren and their spouses, Gigi and Michael Roberts, Grant and Gina Golden, Kyle Pennington, and Caley and Coy Tucker, her great grandchildren Addison Golden, Ansley Golden, Luke Roberts, Reed Roberts, Corbin Tucker, Penelope Tucker, and Charlotte Tucker along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation is scheduled for August 9, 2024, at 9:00 am at Brazzel Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at Liberty Cemetery in Redland community with Bro. James Cox and Bro. Mike Puckett officiating. Serving Pallbearers are Grant Golden, Michael Roberts, Luke Roberts, Dale Pennington, Kyle Pennington, and Coy Tucker. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and nurses at Springs of Hillcrest, Hope Haven Assisted Living, and Enhabit Hospice for the excellent care they provided Joy.
