Obituary: Thomas Anthony “Tom” Fontaine Sr. age 89 passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, AR on June 28, 2017. He was born in Mineral Springs, Blackland Township of Howard County on March 27, 1928 to Joe and Hopie Fontaine. The family later moved to Saratoga, Arkansas where he attended Okay School. He was an amazing husband of 45 years, a brother, father, and much loved Popa Tom to his grand-and-great-grand kids. He often referred to himself, with a smile and a chuckle, as a “Jack-of-All-Trades, Master-of-None” given his ability to float between auto mechanics, refrigeration, truck driving or many other mechanical/occupational trades. If he had nothing else to read, he would pick up and read an encyclopedia to learn more about the world prior to cable tv! He was 5 feet 10 inches tall, had a ready smile and the most gorgeous blue eyes! He served in the Army 614th Engineer Base Equipment Company during the clean-up of Germany in the aftermath of WWII and was awarded Army of Occupation Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. For many years he was a member of the VFW in Texarkana, AR and Prescott, AR. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ed and Frank Fontaine, his sisters Hazel Fontaine and Catherine Fontaine Hilek along with numerous friends that went before him. He once commented that he was very happy with his burial site because when he looked around at all those near him, they were all his friends! Survivors are his loving wife of 45 years, Ruby Faydra Stuart; four sons, one daughter and 4 step-sons along with numerous grandchildren, great-grand-children and a host of friends. The sons are Thomas Fontaine Jr. and wife Wanda of Weatherford, TX; James Fontaine and wife Maeng Ye of Killeen, TX; Roy Fontaine and wife Sukanya of Udon Thani Thailand; Ken Fontaine and wife Dawn of Mt. Pleasant, Utah. His daughter Marlyn Fontaine Langley and husband Glenn of Denham Springs, LA and step-sons Lonnie Huntley and wife Julie of Sherwood, AR; Don Collins and wife Marilyn of Prescott, AR; John Henry Collins of Murfreesboro, AR; and Ronald Collins and wife Diane of Clarksville, AR. He is also survived by his sister Sara Jo Milner of Whitehouse, TX and former wife June Tinsley Fontaine of Nashville, AR. Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, July 1, 2017 with visitation immediately preceding the service 1-2 pm at Missionary Grove Baptist Church. Bro. Mike Steed will be officiating under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Prescott. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Missionary Grove Baptist Church (aka Nubbin Hill) Cemetery or Building Fund, 643 Nevada 66E, Prescott, AR 71857
