Obituary: Jeweldene Mullins, age 94 of Bedford, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. She had resided in Bedford, TX for 45 years. Jeweldene was born in Malvern, Arkansas on April 11, 1930, to Jewel and Opal Leming. Jeweldene grew up in Malvern and graduated from Central High School in 1948. She then entered Henderson State Teachers College taking the first step in her dream of becoming a teacher. After only two years in college, she was offered and accepted a position as teacher and basketball coach in Bodcaw, Arkansas. During one of her games, she met Terrell (T.O.) Mullins and they were married before the end of that first school year. She later received her bachelor’s degree in education from Henderson in 1956. She later received her master’s degree in education from East Texas State University in 1969. She taught for more than 37 years in various locations and retired in 1990 from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Jeweldene and Terrell loved to travel, taking advantage of the benefits of Terrell’s employment with the airlines. Some of their destinations included Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Florida, New Mexico, Hawaii and international travel including Mexico, Germany, France and England. Some of Jeweldene’s favorite activities were square dancing with T.O., camping and boating with her family and playing Scrabble with her sisters. Then the grandkids, Melissa and Josh became her focus. She loved caring for them and spoiling them, even taking both to Disney World. When her great-grandson, Christian was born her focus shifted to him. He was her delight. She cared for him as an infant through his early education. She eventually allowed him to be her “teacher” and “preacher” listening to his lessons and sermons. Jeweldene and Terrell had a son, Joseph. During his career in the Army, they frequently visited Joe and his wife Anita at their many duty stations. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward and her husband Terrell. Jeweldene is survived by her son, Joseph Mullins, his wife Anita, granddaughter Melissa, grandson Josh, and great-grandson Christian. She is also survived by her two sisters, Lois (Gifford) Green of Malvern, Arkansas, MaryLynn Crutcher of Sikeston, Missouri, and one brother, Bob (Beverly) Leming of Malvern, Arkansas. Jeweldene was truly loved by all her family, her friends and the many children she taught. Visitation for Jeweldene will be 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home 1001 Main Street Hope, Arkansas. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel . The burial will be in Bodcaw #1 Church 751 County Road 13, Bodcaw, AR.
